Vaishnavism was developed and popularized by the saintly poets known as ‘Alwars'. There were twelve Alwars and the total number of poems composed by them was 3892.
"A Brief History of Vaishnava Saint Poets :The Alwars" presents an introduction to Naalaayira Divya Prabandham, 12 Alwar saints, their lives, works and philosophy. Dr. P. Jayaraman, founder of bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan, New York has compiled these verses and translated them from Tamil to Hindi and English.
