Sukrita Paul Kumar

Poet and critic, Sukrita Paul Kumar, was born and brought up in Kenya. She held the Aruna Asaf Ali Chair at Delhi University till recently. Formerly, a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, she was an invited poet at the prestigious International Writing Programme, Iowa, USA & Hong Kong Baptist University. Honorary faculty, Durrell Centre at Corfu, Greece, she has been a recipient of many prestigious fellowships and residencies.

Amongst her critical books are Narrating Partition and The New Story. She has co- edited several books that include Ismat: Her Life, Her Times, Interpreting Homes in South Asian Literature, Speaking for Herself: Asian Women's Writings and others. Her most recent collections of poems are Country Drive, Dream Catcher and Poems Come Home (with translations of her poems by Gulzar). Her translations include the book Nude, poems by Vishal Bhardwaj and the novel, Blind, both published by HarperCollins. Chief Editor of the book on Cultural Diversity in India, she was also a guest editor of the journal Manoa (Hawaii). Many of her poems have emerged out of her experience of working with the homeless and Tsunami victims. Her poems have been translated into many languages in India and abroad. She has held solo exhibitions of her paintings.
