Champa Vaid
Champa Vaid is a poet and painter. Educated in India (M.A. in Hindi from Panjab University) and U.S.A (M.Ed from Boston University), she burst into poetry when she was over sixty and painting when she was over seventy five. She has published three volumes of poetry to great acclaim and established herself as an important poetic voice. Her fourth collection, 'Aavazein' ('Voices), of selected and new poems, edited by Piyush Daiya, has just come out from Vani Prakashan. She has given several readings in India and U.S.A. and published poems in English translation in leading journals, papers, and anthologies such as 'Indian Literature', 'Telegraph', 'Primavera', and 'An Anthology of Modern Hindi Poetry.' Champa Vaid's work as an abstract painter has also been widely acknowledged for its exceptional energy and originality--she has had a number of group and solo shows in Delhi, Bhopal, and Indore.
